History of Viking Necklaces

The history of Viking necklaces dates back to antiquity. Even from the earliest times, there is evidence that Vikings were fond of wearing jewelry. Their role was twofold: they wanted to look conspicuous and advantageous, and they sought the help of their gods by wearing necklaces.

All social classes of Vikings wore necklaces, regardless of their position in the hierarchy. They were usually made of gold or silver, but this was not easy to obtain. They were mostly obtained through foreign raiding and trade. In addition to silver, which was the most popular, pearls and precious stones were also used as decorative elements.

The necklaces were usually made of glass beads or precious stones, making each piece truly dazzling and special.

Viking jewelry was not just for personal use, as it was also a gift for loved ones and relatives. These jewels were believed to have a special religious power.

Necklaces and pendants varied in size and length. The pendants are still known today, and most of us may have seen the hammer of Mjölnir, the Valknut and the Yggdrasil motifs.

Not only were they happy to wear these necklaces, but the process of creating it was also a joy with an eye-catching and a spiritual function.

They reflected many things: tradition, destiny, fate, submission to nature and also deep faith. It is no coincidence that these special motifs are still popular to this day.
